Matt Barrett, who founded the very popular and comprehensive website, www.greektravel.com, says he attended a travel show in New York and talked with a cruise agent from Greece. The agent complained about the mega ships from countries other than Greece being “totally inappropriate” for the small harbors on most of the Greek islands. “These islands cannot handle thousands of people disembarking,” he said.

This agency has a variety of offerings, including an eight-day package starting at 595 euros that includes a four-day cruise to Mykonos, Kusadasi, Patmos, Crete, and Santorini, plus Athens, Delphi, and Meteora. This is being promoted as an excellent introduction to the Greek islands.
Another option for those with limited time in Athens is the one-day Saronic Gulf Cruise to the nearby islands of Aegina, Poros, and Hydra. This cruise is offered year round.
